With the Coronation in mind I thought I would talk about kiosk crowns. The gilded crown was first used by Unicorn over thirty years ago when we restored boxes for the Royal Processional Route through the heart of London. The original specification is red but when were asked for something to distinguish these kiosks the golden crown seemed logical.
As these kiosks are in the most prominent positions they are the most photographed and the most referred to, so we have seen gold crowns appearing on kiosks everywhere. They seem so fitting that people think that kiosks have always had them. Then again after three decades perhaps they have become tradition.
We gild with gold leaf rather than paint. If you would like to crown your kiosk I am happy to explain the process.
